After attending school to become a chemical engineer, Venkat Matta found his true passion and found himself running Indian restaurants in North America for the last 15 years. And while he learned much about the complexities of Indian cuisine, he couldn’t understand why the beer served in Indian restaurants was always flavourless, adjunct lagers made with high sugars or corn syrup. And so, with a desire to create beer that pairs well with Indian cuisine, and an understanding that Indian cuisine is so much more than just “spicy curry,” in 2016 he founded Cool India Brewing in order to make naturally smooth lagers and ales with a refreshing taste, natural ingredients, and a nod to Indian culture.
